SYF Arts Presentation 2021On 12 April 2021, the Jurong West Concert Band (JWCB) participated in the annual Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation. This was the event of the year for all Performing Arts CCAs as they had the opportunity to showcase their talents. After many gruelling months of practice compounded by the difficulties put forth by the COVID-19 pandemic, the JWCB overcame all odds to put on their best performance of the year which was a rendition of Aston Overture. Having to receive feedback virtually and practise without their fellow bandmates, this was an event that built resilience and adaptability in the JWCB students. Despite these challenges, the JWCB managed to secure a Certificate of Accomplishment for their hard work

The choir sure knows how to have fun and let off steam! Our students take pride in organising games and bonding activities, and they participate actively in school events like the Sports Education Programme. This year, they took part in bubble soccer!
The choir’s seniors plan an annual programme for My First Skool, where the choir facilitates games and singalong sessions with the kindergarteners there. The choir enjoys sharing our music with the community whenever possible
Selected students from the choir participated in the Winter Choral Festival, where they had the opportunity to work with esteemed conductors during workshops and perform before a panel of judges in the competition segment. The students learnt a lot from the festival, and enjoyed interacting with choirs from a myriad of countries. The highlight of the trip for many students was performing a catchy repertoire of pieces in Hong Kong Disneyland itself!

Secondary 4 Farewell
On 14 April 2021, JWCB witnessed a change in the leadership. To celebrate the Secondary 4 students’ contributions and to welcome the new generation of leaders, the JWCB held a Secondary 4 Farewell event to see the old leaders off and to wish them well for their upcoming examinations. The students participated in a variety of fun activities like creating farewell cards for their seniors and many more. It was a good opportunity for the JWCB to have one final bonding session with the seniors as an entire CCA and to have the seniors hand over the proverbial torch to the next batch of leaders.

Not to be outdone, the seniors presents Ms Huda with a handmade card to express their appreciation.

National Day E-Concert
On 8 August 2021, JWSS came together to celebrate the 56th birthday of our nation. In lieu of face-to-face celebrations in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the JWCB put together a video of themselves playing a rendition of Stand Up for Singapore for the school’s enjoyment. Despite the operational challenges of such an undertaking, the JWCB students overcame these difficulties with grit and determination to produce a rousing performance.
Resumption of Face-to-Face Sessions
In accordance with the brief relaxation of safe management measures nationwide, JWCB managed to experience some face-to-face CCA sessions. This provided some much-needed relief from the stringent measures. It also provided a rare opportunity for the students to have hands-on engagement with their CCA activities and to interact with their fellow bandmates.
Despite the inability to practise their woodwind or brass instruments, the JWCB students heaved a sigh of relief as they could at least practise their rhythms and rudiments face-to-face.
Performing Arts Videography Workshop
In November 2021, JWCB attended a virtual Videography Workshop with their fellow schoolmates from the Performing Arts CCAs. This workshop included lessons on the processes underlying film production. The students had the opportunity to learn new skills such as shot composition and storyboarding. This was on top of an opportunity to form new bonds with their schoolmates.
