Curriculum

Geography builds on students’ experiences and prior knowledge to examine the physical and human phenomena found on Earth as well as their complex interactions and patterns across space.

Geography emphasises the integrative study of physical and human environments to enable students to gain a better understanding of their own space and other parts of the world.

It also focuses on the interconnectedness among groups of people, and between people and their environment.

Curriculum

History education in Singapore seeks to develop in students a critical appreciation of past human experiences and connections between the past and present.

There are seven qualities of a History learner, which the History Syllabuses (from lower secondary to pre-university) aim to develop in our students. These seven qualities are further elaborated in the framework below.

Principles of Accounts

Principles of Accounts (POA) is designed to provide students with a meaningful basic introduction to financial accounting and to develop an appreciation of the discipline of accounting. It is grounded in preparing, communicating and using financial information, and appreciating the need for ethical conduct. The subject places emphasis on the understanding and application of accounting knowledge to develop lifelong skills and values that will be of value in the increasingly complex world of business.

This subject forms part of a broad-based education to equip students with strong fundamentals for future learning.

In line with the framework of learning Principles of Accounts as an important foundation subject, our department organises a series of enrichment activities to stimulate students' interest and inquisitiveness towards the subject.

POA Enrichment and Competitions

POA Learning Journey to ShopBack
Principles of Accounts (POA) students gained exclusive backdoor access and experienced real-life actions behind ShopBack, a successful homegrown start-up that won a slew of entrepreneurship awards for its creativity and innovation in Fintech.

Students interacted with key personnel from the company and witnessed the application of various financial and accounting concepts in real-life context through the company’s cashback reward programme available across Asia-Pacific with over 5 million members on its platform.

POA Learning Journey to the Marina Bay Financial Centre
Secondary 3 Express students went on a learning journey to Marina Bay Financial Centre. As it was their first visit to Marina Bay Financial Centre, the students were excited and eager to explore the various landmarks as they followed their teachers to the respective stations. At each station, the students were tasked to complete a series of accounting questions in teams. Many of them put in their best effort to complete the task within the given time, determined to win a prize for their team!

Build Your Own Business (BYOB) Game Board Challenge

POA students had a day of fun and excitement when they participated in the BYOB Game Board Challenge organised by Republic Polytechnic.  Students attended a one-day accounting workshop before they pit their newfound knowledge against other schools in a board game that simulates the starting of a business and incorporates basic accounting concepts.

National Financial Literacy Challenge & National Accounting Challenge

This challenge allows POA students to observe the relevance between POA and Financial Literacy. They get to apply their POA knowledge in the context of Financial Literacy and also learn about the key Financial Literacy concepts and the importance of planning ahead.

POA Quest

Through this competition, our secondary four POA students have a chance to ascertain their mastery in the POA and apply their POA knowledge and concepts through gamification. The POA Quest has definitely deepen their interest for the subject.

National Cashflow Competition @ Nanyang Technological University

This competition is organised by the Investment Interactive Club at Nanyang Technological University, sponsored by the Institute for Financial Literacy.  It is an interactive and fun-filled competition which allows students to understand more about the working world. POA Students learnt about the various education and career pathways, sustainable economic literacy concepts, income tax, CPF as well as tips about wealth management and smart investing through this experience.

ACCTRAORDINARY with Accounting Avengers @ Nanyang Polytechnic 

ACCTraordinary is an engaging and informative outreach event organised by the polytechnics and ITE to promote the field of Accountancy. POA Students get to listen to the Keynote Speech by Minister Indranee, in which her speech provides an insightful overview of the accounting profession, along with the future plans for accounting pathways. These insights will be valuable when guiding students about the role of accountants and the steps they can take to pursue a career in this field.
